Best Summer Bars & Restaurants in Boston

It’s that time of the year, patio dining season. Abby always knows the best places to go and shared some of her favorites with us.

Legal Harborside, Seaport: Although it’s usually packed on a nice summer day and is a tad pricey, the second floor views are fab and there’s a variety of seating throughout including couches, booths, and bar stools.

Lookout Rooftop & Bar, Seaport: Located in the new Envoy Hotel right over the bridge in the seaport, the rooftop offers unobstructed views of downtown Boston. Getting there early is always a good idea though.

The Colonnade, Back Bay: Pool + bar. Nuff said.

Devlin’s, Brighton: In addition to having the best pulled pork nachos ever, Devlin’s also has a great outdoor space equipped with a bar and string lights. Chill atmosphere and good food and drinks – all you need in the summer.

Tia’s, Downtown: Average food, average drinks, but a good location to just grab drinks after work on a nice day.

Trillium, Downtown: Although the Trillium beer garden just opened this season, it’s been packed every time they’ve been open. Very relaxed environment with picnic tables and food trucks right outside the designated fences. If you’re just looking to be outside and have a beer in your hand after work or on the weekends, this is a fun new spot.

Temazcal, Seaport: They have good guacamole, tacos, and margaritas and on a nice day when the walls are opened up everyone sitting inside can enjoy the view.

Barcelona Wine Bar, South End & Brookline: A delicious tapas restaurant with a great drink selection. Highly recommended.

Barking Crab, Seaport: A no frills outdoor bar and restaurant that serves up all the seafood you could ever want. The whole restaurant is filled with picnic tables and loud music. This is not the place if you’re looking for a quiet intimate evening, but the food, the view, and the atmosphere are worth the visit.

Atlantic Beer Garden, Seaport: Get it while it’s hot! This place is slated to be demolished very soon to clear space for a $260 million condo – a stark contrast to what ABG and the neighboring Whiskey Priest are now. They have average food and average drinks, but the major selling point is the spacious rooftop with harbor views.

Joe’s American, Downtown: Joe’s has plenty of outdoor seating, is right on the water, and also positioned further away from the craziness of Faneuil Hall tourists in the summer.

Coppersmith, Southie: A crafty bar with tons of seating inside and out. The second floor roof deck also has a separate bar and yard games.

Other notable summer bars:

City Tap House, Fort Point
Cafeteria, Back Bay
Waterclub at Marina Bay, Quincy
Tony C’s, Fenway & Seaport
Granary Tavern, Downtown
Tony’s Clam Shop, Marina Bay, Quincy
Daedalus, Cambridge
